Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Science Technician for a Sunderland secondary school to support practical science lessons and maintain the STEM prep area. The role is suited to graduates who enjoy applying their science knowledge daily and who want to gain school-based experience.

The position offers long-term, full-time engagement at a Sunderland campus with competitive daily rates and ongoing consultant support from Teaching Personnel.

Qualifications

  • Practical knowledge of laboratory environments and procedures.
  • Organised, methodical and safety-conscious approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a science department team.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and setting up equipment and materials for Science lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
  • Maintaining and organising the science prep room and laboratory equipment.
  • Ensuring health and safety standards are met across all practical activities.
  • Supporting teachers with the delivery of practical lessons where required.
  • Managing stock, ordering supplies and keeping accurate records.
  • Disposing of chemicals and materials safely in line with COSHH regulations.

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Science Technician for a secondary school in Sunderland, with a start date as soon as possible.

This is a relatively rare opportunity - Science Technician roles don't come up often, and for the right candidate it's a genuinely rewarding position that sits at the heart of a busy, well-resourced Science department.

The role is particularly well suited to Science graduates who are considering a career in education but aren't yet ready to commit to teacher training, or those who simply enjoy working within a school science environment and want to put their subject knowledge to practical use every day.

What the role involves:
  • Preparing and setting up equipment and materials for Science lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
  • Maintaining and organising the science prep room and laboratory equipment
  • Ensuring health and safety standards are met across all practical activities
  • Supporting teachers with the delivery of practical lessons where required

What we're looking for:
  • A degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related science discipline - desirable
  • Practical knowledge of laboratory environments and procedures
  • An organised, methodical, and safety-conscious approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider Science department team
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
