Qualifications

  • Experience as a science technician with laboratory skills.
  • Ability to prepare chemicals and set up science experiments.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation & COSHH.

Responsibilities

  • Support the science team and outcomes for students in science courses.
  • Safely prepare and set up a range of science experiments.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure safety compliance.

Job description

Contract term: Permanent

Contract type: Term-time only plus 5 days, 40 hours per week

We currently offer three scheduling options for this position to accommodate the most suitable candidates:

  • Option 1.Full-time: 07:30 - 16:00, Monday to Friday
  • Option 2.Morning shift: 07:30 - 11:30, Monday to Friday
  • Option 3.Afternoon shift: 12:00 - 16:00, Monday to Friday

Scale: Grade 4, point 7-11 (£25,584-£27,269 FTE), pro rata starting salary of £25,150.

This is a great opportunity to come and work in our very highly rated secondary school in central Manchester. We are looking to appoint a reliable, enthusiastic and hardworking Science Technician to join our team. The person we are looking for will be an excellent communicator, with initiative and a ‘can do’ attitude. They will be part of a dedicated team enabling our main school and Sixth Form to make a real difference to the lives of young people in Manchester. Every day will be different and their work will support our science team and the outcomes of students studying on science courses over Key Stages 3 to 5.

WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU:

  • A science background with laboratory experience as a science technician;
  • Good communication, written and interpersonal skills are vital for this role;
  • Confidence to prepare chemicals and safely set up a range of science experiments;
  • Knowledge of safe working practices, Health & Safety legislation & COSHH, CLEAPSS & ESCC regulations;
  • Well organised and professional with a flexible and positive approach to all aspects and areas of your work;
  • Ability to work independently, responding to tight deadlines, prioritising work whilst collaborating with colleagues to achieve goals and complete projects within timescales;
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills, at least equivalent to RQF Level 2, with excellent IT skills;
  • Supportive of the school's excellent staff attendance and punctuality record.

Please note that training will be provided on safeguarding and school specific IT applications.
