Exciting Opportunity for an Experienced School Science Technician

Career Teachers are seeking to appoint an experienced Science Technician for a North Birmingham-based secondary school on a full-time, temporary (term-time only) basis starting September 2024.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  1. Working as part of a team and reporting to the Senior Science Technician.
  2. Preparing stock solutions and maintaining glassware in classrooms.
  3. Preparing practical lessons prior to delivery and supporting teachers during lessons.
  4. Maintaining the Science Technician laboratory and carrying out regular health and safety checks on laboratories, preparation rooms, and stores.
  5. Providing technical support and health and safety advice to staff and students.
  6. Assisting the administration team with updating pupil data.
  7. Implementing procedures and regulations for the safe disposal of waste materials.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Science.
  2. Minimum of 6 months experience working as a Science Technician in a school setting.
  3. Eligibility to work in the UK.
  4. Hold an enhanced DBS check on the update service or willingness to undertake a new one.
  5. Up-to-date safeguarding training; Career Teachers offers a free online safeguarding course.
  6. Ability to provide at least 2 references covering the last 2 years of employment.
  7. Recent experience as a Food Technology Technician.
  8. A creative individual with excellent organisational skills.
  9. Pro-active support for teaching and learning in the classroom under supervision.
