Science Student Intern — Lab & Outreach (Part-Time)

Job summary

UHI Inverness invites applications for a Student Intern – Science on a fixed-term contract. This vacancy is open only to UHI students. The role is 6 hours per week (0.17 FTE) for 9 months with a salary grade A (£25,725–£25,970 per annum pro-rata 1 FTE).

PVG Check is required prior to starting. Closing date 4 October 2026; interviews w/c 8 October 2026. Applications should be submitted to the Human Resources Department.

Qualifications

• SCQF Level 6 qualification or equivalent (for example HNC, SVQ 3 in a relevant discipline)/ or experience in a technical/lab environment.
• IT skills in MS Office
• Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast-moving environment, providing an effective service to a wide variety of clients
• Ability to prioritise and organise individual and team tasks effectively and in accordance with the requirements of service level agreements

Responsibilities

• Maintaining and preparing materials and equipment for practical lab sessions.
• Presenting at Open Day/Evening events to promote the study of Science and ensuring a safe day to day running of the science area.
• SCQF Level 6 qualification or equivalent (for example HNC, SVQ 3 in a relevant discipline)/ or experience in a technical/lab environment. At Intern level, working towards this level of qualification is acceptable
• IT skills in MS Office
• Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast-moving environment, providing an effective service to a wide variety of clients
