Job summary

Nottingham Secondary School is seeking a Science Technician to join its busy Science department on a full-time, permanent basis. The role supports teachers with practical science across KS3, KS4 and KS5, ensuring laboratories are well equipped and activities are prepped.

You will prepare demonstrations, experiments and investigations across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, set up apparatus, check equipment and keep COSHH records.

Qualifications

• Previous Science Technician or laboratory experience.
• Good practical knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics.
• Experience handling laboratory equipment.
• Understanding of laboratory health and safety.
• Knowledge of COSHH procedures desirable.
• Strong organisational skills.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare equipment and resources for practical lessons
• Support Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons
• Set up experiments and demonstrations
• Prepare solutions and chemicals where appropriate
• Monitor stock levels and order resources
• Ensure chemicals are stored correctly
• Maintain appropriate COSHH records
• Carry out routine equipment checks
• Identify damaged or faulty equipment
• Support practical examinations and assessments
• Prepare resources for GCSE and A-Level practical work
• Assist with science clubs and enrichment activities
• Maintain clean, safe and organised laboratories
• Support teachers with practical demonstrations
• Follow all relevant health and safety procedures
• The successful candidate will be expected to work proactively, anticipating what teachers require and preparing resources in good time rather than simply responding to requests on the day.
