Job summary

Teaching Vacancies seeks a dedicated Science Technician to provide high-quality technical support across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You will help prepare practical lessons, maintain equipment and uphold stringent health and safety standards across multiple courses.

You will work with staff and students, develop demonstrations, manage resources and support department activities, including open days and field trips, in a collaborative, student-centred college environment.

Qualifications

• A Levels or degree qualification (or equivalent) in scientific subjects.
• Experience working in a technician role within education or industry.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills.
• Strong IT and technological skills.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and students.
• Confidence working independently and managing your own workload.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Experience supporting health and safety risk assessment processes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratories, equipment, chemicals and materials for practical lessons.
• Support the delivery of Biology, Chemistry and Physics practical activities.
• Ensure the safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and biological waste in line with CLEAPSS and government guidance.
• Maintain laboratories and preparation areas to a high standard.
• Develop, test and prepare practical demonstrations when required.
• Manage laboratory inventories, stock control and ordering processes.
• Arrange equipment servicing and undertake minor repairs where appropriate.
• Support lecturers, students and project work during practical sessions.
• Maintain and review risk assessments for practical activities, field trips and events.
• Assist with open days, field trips and other departmental activities.
• Provide health and safety advice within laboratory environments.
