Job summary

A high-achieving secondary school in Maidstone, Kent is seeking an experienced Science Technician to join its established science department. You will provide practical and technical support to Biology, Chemistry and Physics, preparing resources and assisting during lessons.

The role involves setting up experiments, maintaining equipment, monitoring stock, ensuring COSHH compliance and supporting practical examinations. DBS check is required and the contract is full-time and permanent.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Science Technician in a school or college is essential.
• A relevant science qualification would be beneficial, though strong school-based technician experience will be considered.
• An enhanced DBS will be required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare practical resources for Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons.
• Set up experiments and demonstrations for lessons.
• Prepare chemicals and laboratory equipment for use.
• Support teachers during practical lessons in laboratories.
• Maintain and check scientific equipment for safety and readiness.
• Keep laboratories and preparation rooms organised and tidy.
• Monitor stock and arrange replenishment when needed.
• Ensure chemicals are correctly labelled and stored following COSHH.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and spaces.
• Report damaged or faulty equipment promptly.
• Support practical examinations and assessments.
• Safely dispose of laboratory waste according to procedures.
• Prepare resources in line with the school's teaching timetable.
• Assist with general lab organisation and safety compliance.
