Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Science Technician for a highly regarded secondary school in Oxford. You will provide practical and technical support to the science department, ensuring labs and resources are ready for lessons.

Key duties include preparing equipment and materials, setting up experiments, supporting teachers, and maintaining safety and organisation across Biology, Chemistry and Physics labs. An enhanced DBS is required.

Qualifications

• Recent school/college Science Technician experience.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory health and safety.
• Experience preparing practical science lessons.
• Confidence handling scientific equipment and chemicals.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a department.
• A proactive approach to preparing resources in advance.
• Enhanced DBS will be required.

Responsibilities

• Preparing equipment, chemicals and materials for practical lessons.
• Setting up experiments and demonstrations before lessons.
• Supporting teachers during practical activities.
• Preparing Biology, Chemistry and Physics resources.
• Maintaining and checking laboratory equipment.
• Keeping laboratories, preparation rooms and storage areas organised.
• Monitoring stock levels and identifying when resources need replenishing.
• Ensuring chemicals and equipment are stored safely.
• Following COSHH, risk assessment and health and safety procedures.
• Cleaning and maintaining practical equipment.
• Reporting damaged or faulty equipment.
• Supporting practical examinations where required.
• Ensuring laboratory waste is disposed of safely.
• Working closely with teaching staff to prepare resources around the school's timetable.
