Wayman Education is recruiting a Science Technician for a Secondary School in Barking. The school is looking for a practical and organised individual who can support the science department and help ensure lessons are delivered in a safe, well-equipped environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with science teachers to prepare resources, maintain laboratory equipment and support practical activities across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The Science Technician will play an important part in preparing laboratories and ensuring teachers have the equipment and materials needed for practical lessons.
Responsibilities will include preparing chemicals, apparatus and materials, setting up equipment for demonstrations and experiments, and supporting practical lessons across relevant Key Stages. The successful candidate will also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment, checking resources are safe and complete, and ensuring preparation rooms and storage areas remain organised.
The role will involve monitoring stock levels, ordering laboratory supplies, storing chemicals appropriately and following health and safety procedures when handling materials and equipment. The Science Technician will also assist with the safe disposal of laboratory waste, maintain records of equipment and stock, and report damaged equipment or potential safety concerns.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a laboratory, school science department or similar practical environment. An interest in science, strong organisational skills and a careful approach to preparing resources are essential.
The school is seeking someone with an understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures who can work independently and collaboratively. Good communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities during a busy school day are also important.
