Job description

An excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact across maintained schools while supporting senior leaders with practical, trusted HR advice. Two days a week as a minimum; can work remotely with some school travel (although infrequent).

About the Role

Experienced Schools HR Advisor to provide high-quality HR and organisational development support to maintained schools. This is a rewarding interim opportunity for a confident HR professional who enjoys working closely with senior leaders, solving complex people-related issues, and helping schools make fair, informed, and legally sound decisions. You will play a key role in strengthening people management capability, supporting positive employee relations, and contributing to effective workforce planning in a busy educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a trusted first point of contact for schools, delivering responsive, practical and high-quality HR advice on employee-related matters.
  • Coach and guide managers through options, risks and next steps, helping them take confident and appropriate action.
  • Support a varied caseload covering employee relations, organisational redesign and other people management matters.
  • Work collaboratively with wider HR and support services, including Employee Wellbeing and Pensions, to deliver joined-up advice and positive outcomes.
  • Support constructive trade union engagement by preparing clear information, data and guidance for forums.
  • Help develop confident people leaders in schools by working closely with HR and OD colleagues on effective, sustainable change.

About You

  • A confident HR professional with strong knowledge of employment legislation, HR/OD best practice and national or local HR policies, ideally gained within schools or another complex public sector environment.
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent relevant experience, supported by a good standard of general education.
  • Proven experience providing clear technical HR/OD advice to managers and supporting employee relations casework from start to finish.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise, influence and build trusted relationships with senior leaders and managers.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines, work independently and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce concise reports, briefings and guidance.
  • Confident IT skills, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and HR systems.
  • A genuine commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive practice, with the ability to apply this in workforce and school settings.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel inside and outside the area when required.

Additional Information

  • Enhanced DBS required.
  • 2 Years References/Work History

Why Apply?

  • Make a direct contribution to schools and the communities they support.
  • Work in a varied HR advisory role with meaningful employee relations and organisational development exposure.
  • Join a role with an immediate start and potential to extend based on performance.
  • If you are an experienced HR Advisor who can provide sound, practical advice in a fast-paced school environment, we would welcome your application.
