Job summary

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Jarrow is seeking a proactive Site Supervisor to maintain the school site and ensure a welcoming, safe environment for the whole school community. The role covers maintenance, security of buildings/grounds, stock control and basic handyman tasks with collaborative support from the Estates team.

The position offers a stable full-time contract (37 hours per week), with split shift patterns and start as soon as possible.

Qualifications

• Hands-on approach to maintenance and site duties.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to plan tasks.
• Clear communication with staff and external suppliers.
• Practical knowledge of basic maintenance tasks.
• Ability to move and handle objects safely.
• Flexible, works well in a team; takes initiative.
• Leadership qualities and ability to supervise others.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the school is well presented and maintained to a high standard.
• Keep buildings and the site secure, including out of hours activity.
• Open/lock premises and respond to security alarms per procedures.
• Undertake handyperson duties (painting, repairs, shelving, taps, etc).
• Monitor stock and inform about shortages.
• Carrying out porterage and deliveries within the school.
• Conduct regular health and safety checks of buildings and grounds.
• Coordinate deliveries and assist with movements of equipment.
• Work with Estates Manager to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
• Carry out minor repairs as required.
