Job summary

Ringwood School Academy is seeking an experienced School Nurse to provide high‑quality medical care and support for students during term time. You will work closely with pupils, parents and staff to meet health needs and support wellbeing within a busy school environment.

The role covers sickness absence and daily health management, with 8:00–15:00 hours, 35 hours per week, term‑time only. A compassionate, professional nurse with NMC registration is essential.

Qualifications

• A Registered Nurse (RGN/RSCN) with current NMC registration.
• Experienced working with children or young people, ideally in school or community settings.
• Calm, organized and able to handle emergencies and confidential information.
• Excellent communication with students, staff, parents and healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and manage illnesses and injuries during the school day.
• Coordinate care for students with ongoing medical conditions and plans.
• Administer medications according to school policy.
• Maintain accurate, confidential medical records.
• Liaise with families to support Individual Healthcare Plans.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to support student welfare.
• Advise staff on medical needs and appropriate support.

Job description

School Nurse £17 per hour, 35 hours per week

Term Time Only

Monday - Friday 08.00 - 15.00. (30-minute lunch break to be taken either before or after the school lunchtime)

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate School Nurse to cover sickness potentially up until December or until the return of the incumbent.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified nurse who enjoys working with young people and is passionate about supporting their health, wellbeing and welfare within a busy school environment.

The Role

As the School Nurse, you will be responsible for providing a high standard of medical care and support to our students throughout the school day. You will work closely with students, parents/carers, teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to ensure students' health needs are appropriately managed.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Providing first aid and responding to illness and injuries during the school day.

• Managing students with ongoing medical conditions and individual healthcare plans.

• Administering medication in accordance with school policies and appropriate procedures.

• Maintaining accurate and confidential medical records.

• Liaising with families to prepare Individual Healthcare Plans for students with allergies in line with Benedicts Law

  • Liaising with families and healthcare professionals where appropriate to support students with serious medical conditions

  • Supporting students with their physical and emotional wellbeing.

  • Advising staff on students' medical needs and appropriate support.

  • Promoting good health and wellbeing across the school.

  • Responding calmly and professionally to medical emergencies.

  • Maintaining a safe, organised and confidential medical environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• A Registered Nurse (RGN/RSCN) with current NMC registration.

• Experienced in working with children or young people, ideally within a school or community setting.

• Caring, approachable and able to build positive relationships with students.

• Calm and confident when dealing with emergencies and unexpected situations.

• Highly organised, reliable and able to work independently.

• Able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound professional judgement.

• A strong communicator who can work effectively with students, staff, parents and external healthcare professionals.

Previous experience as a school nurse would be advantageous, although nurses with relevant paediatric, community or emergency experience will also be considered.
