Job Opportunity: School Mental Health Teaching Assistant (Mental Health Focus)

Location: Bedford

Position: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: £460 - £500 a week

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team in Bedford. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs in a Pupil Referral Unit setting. Your primary responsibility will be to assist with the delivery of tailored interventions and provide day-to-day support to students, fostering their emotional and academic growth as a School Mental Health Teaching Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide individual and small group support to students with SEMH needs, focusing on mental health and emotional well-being.
  2. Assist with implementing personalised learning plans and behavioural strategies.
  3. Support students in managing their emotions, building resilience, and developing coping mechanisms.
  4. Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to ensure effective communication and holistic support.
  5. Support the implementation of therapeutic interventions as required, working alongside external agencies such as CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
  6. Foster strong relationships with students to promote engagement and emotional development.

About You:

  1. Previous experience working in SEMH settings or Pupil Referral Units is essential.
  2. A keen interest in becoming a School Mental Health Teaching Assistant.
  3. A strong understanding of mental health issues, including the impact on learning and behaviour.
  4. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external professionals.
  5. A patient, empathetic approach to supporting students with challenging behaviours and emotional difficulties.
  6. Ability to implement strategies that support students' mental health, social development, and academic progress.
  7. Ability to commute to Bedford.
