Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a part-time Catering Assistant at Cornfield School, Littlehampton. The role supports pupils with nutritious meals and teaches life skills, with a friendly, service-focused approach during mealtimes.

The contract is term-time only (39 weeks) with 23.45 hours per week, including five cleaning days. Requires Level 2 Food Safety and a commitment to health, safety, and nutrition.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering with good customer service.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Level 2 Food Safety Certificate.
• Basic literacy and numeracy.
• Experience with Health & Safety procedures in a commercial setting.
• Understanding for the needs of young people with special educational needs.
• Passion for promoting healthy and balanced eating.

Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day operation of the kitchen including preparation, cooking, and cleaning to the required standards, ensuring hygiene and safety measures are maintained.
• Work in a busy environment and support colleagues to maintain high professional standards.
• Follow written documentation for Health & Safety and Food Safety legislation and business requirements.
