School Kitchen Assistant – Temporary / Ad-Hoc Cover

Location: Tiverton & surrounding areas

Pay: £12.71 per hour

Hours: Typically around 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday

Contract: Temporary / Ad-hoc

Recruitment Unlimited is looking for reliable Kitchen Assistants and Catering Assistants to join our temporary school catering team, providing cover across schools in Tiverton and the surrounding area.

We work with local schools that require additional kitchen staff to cover sickness, holidays, staff shortages and other temporary staffing requirements.

The Role

As a Kitchen Assistant, your duties may include:

• Assisting with basic food preparation
• Helping to serve meals to pupils and staff
• Washing up and cleaning kitchen equipment
• Keeping kitchen, dining and food preparation areas clean and tidy
• Following food hygiene, health and safety procedures
• Supporting the school's existing catering team
• Helping with general kitchen duties as required
• Ensuring work areas are maintained to a high standard

The exact duties will vary depending on the school and the assignment.

Shifts are typically around 4 hours during the school day, Monday to Friday.

This is temporary, ad-hoc work, meaning shifts are offered as they become available and hours are not guaranteed.

Assignments may sometimes be offered at short notice due to sickness or other staff absence. You will be able to choose whether to accept shifts offered to you, making this suitable for candidates looking for flexible work.

There may also be opportunities for regular or ongoing school catering work depending on client requirements and your availability.

Enhanced DBS

As these assignments take place within schools, successful candidates will need to complete an Enhanced DBS check before undertaking school assignments.

Recruitment Unlimited will arrange and pay for the DBS check for suitable candidates selected for our school catering team.

We are therefore looking for applicants who are genuinely interested in undertaking school catering assignments once their DBS clearance has been completed.

If you already hold a suitable Enhanced DBS registered on the DBS Update Service, we would also be interested in hearing from you.

About You

Previous kitchen, catering or hospitality experience is preferred, although relevant transferable experience will also be considered.
