Job summary

City of Edinburgh Council is hiring a Cleaning Operative for Canal View Primary School. The role is 12.5 hours per week, 40 weeks per year, with an after-school pattern 3:30pm–6:00pm, Monday to Friday.

You will join Facilities Management to provide safe, clean premises and adapt to sessional or flexible hours as needed. The post offers security in a permanent role, optional sessional hours, and opportunities for progression, with a strong emphasis on training and a respectful, diverse workplace

Qualifications

• PVG scheme membership or update check required.
• Overseas Criminal Record Check if spent 3+ months outside the UK in last 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Empty litter and recycling bins.
• Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture in a group of buildings.
• Sanitary areas, toilets and showers; replenish washroom consumables.
• Emergency and reactive cleaning as required (graffiti, spillages).
• Care and cleanliness of equipment; support cleaning tasks across other buildings when needed.
• Ensure cleaning meets the specified standards and cooperate with performance measures.
