Job summary

Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking a confident, approachable School Crossing Patrol Officer to join the Road Safety team in Ampthill on a fixed-permanent basis. The role is 7.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, split shifts, and based at Dunstable Street, Ampthill.

No prior crossing patrol experience is required as full training will be provided; we welcome reliable, punctual individuals with good communication skills who enjoy working with children and the public.

Qualifications

• To be successful in this role, you will have:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact confidently with children, parents, drivers and the public.
• Commitment to promoting safety of children and pedestrians.
• Good observation skills and attention to detail to identify hazards and respond appropriately.
• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in busy traffic situations.
• Reliability, punctuality and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Confidence in working independently and following safety procedures.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Positive, friendly and approachable manner.
• Experience in customer-facing roles is helpful but not required.
• Understanding safeguarding and protecting children.

Responsibilities

• Manage the school crossing patrol service to ensure safe journeys to and from school.
• Promote and maintain safety of children and pedestrians at crossings.
• Record details of incidents and follow established procedures.
