Job summary

Teach Now is recruiting a Cover Manager for a secondary school in Hertfordshire. This full-time temporary role combines organising daily staff cover with supervising lessons, giving you a direct part in keeping students education on track.

Reporting to the Assistant Headteacher, you\'ll coordinate cover for absent teaching and support staff, communicate arrangements, and respond to changing priorities. Your classroom presence will help students understand work and meet behaviour expectations.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Cover Manager, HLTA or school administrator.
• Experience working in a secondary school.
• Strong behaviour management and confidence leading a classroom independently.
• Experience using school management, timetabling or staff absence systems.
• Excellent organisation, attention to detail and communication skills.
• Reliable availability for a 6:30am start and commitment to safeguarding.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and allocate daily cover for absent teaching and support staff.
• Deploy staff effectively to maintain lesson continuity and minimise disruption.
• Supervise pre-prepared lessons across a range of subjects.
• Keep students on task and support their understanding of assigned work.
• Maintain classroom behaviour in line with school expectations.
• Keep accurate cover records and communicate changes promptly.
• Work with the Assistant Headteacher and colleagues to support smooth daily operations.
