Job summary

Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) invites applications for an experienced School Counsellor to join our pastoral, safeguarding and wellbeing team. You will provide a confidential counselling service to students aged 14-19, supporting emotional wellbeing, mental health and personal development.

You will work with colleagues across the academy, build trustful relationships, manage safeguarding requirements and contribute to wider wellbeing initiatives, with a commitment to inclusion and

Qualifications

• A recognised qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Counselling Psychology or equivalent.
• Membership or accreditation with a recognised professional body such as BACP, UKCP, NCPS or equivalent.
• Experience of providing counselling or therapeutic interventions to young people.
• Experience of safeguarding and risk assessment.
• Understanding of adolescent development and common mental health difficulties.
• Trauma-informed and relational approaches.
• Ability to build effective therapeutic relationships with young people while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage complex/sensitive situations.
• Strong organisational and record-keeping skills with confidentiality and data protection.

Responsibilities

• Provide a professional and confidential counselling service to students aged 14-19.
• Support emotional wellbeing, mental health and personal development.
• Collaborate with safeguarding, pastoral, attendance and SEND teams and external agencies as appropriate.
• Safeguarding knowledge and practice in line with KCSIE and safeguarding legislation.
