Job summary

Independent SEND School is seeking a compassionate School Counsellor to join the pastoral team. The role includes direct student counselling and supervision of other professionals, with responsibilities spanning program development and crisis intervention.

Applicants should hold a recognised counselling/psychotherapy qualification and accreditation, ideally with school-based experience and supervision skills. A DBS check will be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students.
• Offer professional supervision to fellow staff.

• Respond promptly to student crises and collaborate with staff/external agencies as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents and external professionals to support students.
• Maintain confidentiality in line with ethical guidelines and school policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Student Support: Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students, addressing academic, emotional, and social challenges.
• Supervision: Offer professional supervision to fellow staff, fostering their development and ensuring adherence to best practices.
• Program Development: Design and implement comprehensive school counselling programs that promote student well-being and align with the school's ethos.
• Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly to student crises, collaborating with staff and external agencies as necessary.
• Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to create supportive networks for students.
• Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality in line with ethical guidelines and school policies.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A recognised qualification in counselling or psychotherapy.
• Accreditation with a professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP).
• Experience in a school setting is highly desirable.
• Proven experience in providing supervision to other counselling professionals.
