About The Role

The role is based within the School of Neuroscience (SoN) and is to cover a secondment for 12 months starting on 1st July 2025. The School Communications Manager will work across the School with key stakeholders to provide high-level communications support to best promote the School to internal and external audiences.

The role is responsible for developing and delivering the School’s communication strategy in order to deliver on the School strategy, with the role holder acting as a key interface between the School, Faculty, wider University and external audiences. The post-holder will lead on external communications for the School and support the Senior Business Support Officer who will lead on internal communications.

The role would suit someone who is proactive, with a strong Neuroscience background, has excellent communications skills and is able to engage with a range of audiences on complex topics.

The role will provide individuals with experience of managing communications across a large and complex School and would suit someone interested in pursuing a career in communications.

The role holder will report to the Head of School Operations, with a dotted reporting line through to the IoPPN Head of Communications

This is a full-time post, however we will also consider adjusting the role as part-time (0.5FTE). In this instance, the part-time focus of the role will be to lead on external communications. You will be offered a fixed term contract until 30th June 2026.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria

  • Proven scientific or complex science communications background.
  • Solutions focused self-starter with experience of identifying communications opportunities and using creative digital media
  • Experience of developing and/or delivering a communications strategy, applying a broad range of communications methods across traditional and social media, events, web, design and print.
  • Proven experience in identifying and adapting communication materials to meet the needs of different groups.
  • Excellent task management skills and ability to meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective at working independently, and as part of a team, able to take own initiative and decisions with a proactive approach to complex problem solving.

Desirable criteria

  • Proven working experience in higher education
  • Awareness of current challenges in the sector of neuroscience research
