Job summary

Leigh on Mendip School is seeking a dedicated cleaner to join our supportive team. The role involves maintaining high standards of cleanliness across the school premises to ensure a hygienic and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

The post is part-time, 15 hours per week, 5 days per week, with shifts after 3.30pm, including inset days and holiday blocks. Shortlisting closes on the specified date, with the start on 9th November 2026.

Qualifications

• Essential: Basic literacy and numeracy; ability to follow instructions; physical ability to undertake active work (bending, lifting, stretching, operating machinery); reliable, adaptable and approachable; willingness to undertake training and use basic electronic devices; commitment to safeguarding and Health & Safety policies.
• Desirable: Previous experience in cleaning or school setting.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled cleaning duties across designated areas (vacuuming, mopping, dusting and polishing).
• Safely handle cleaning chemicals and materials in line with procedures.
• Empty waste bins and transport waste to designated compounds.
• Replenish hygiene consumables (soap, toilet paper, hand towels).
• Report maintenance or safety concerns to line manager.
• Record keeping of supplies.
• Inform office when additional supplies are required.
