Job summary

Leigh on Mendip Primary School is seeking a dedicated cleaner to join our team to maintain high standards of cleanliness across school premises. The role is part-time (15 hours per week) with duties in the late afternoon/evening, five days a week, and includes holiday coverage when required.

The successful candidate will contribute to a hygienic and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors, with safeguarding and Health & Safety policies guiding daily practice.

Qualifications

• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a busy team.
• Physical capability to undertake active work (bending, lifting, stretching).
• A reliable, adaptable and approachable attitude.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training and use basic electronic devices for communication.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled cleaning duties across designated areas (vacuuming, mopping, dusting and polishing furniture and fittings).
• Safely handle cleaning chemicals and materials in line with procedures.
• Empty waste bins and safely transport waste to designated compounds.
• Replenish essential hygiene consumables (soap, toilet paper, hand towels).
• Record keeping of supplies and informing office when additional supplies are required.
