Job summary

Adecco is seeking a reliable School Caretaker for temporary cover at Brightlingsea. You will maintain a clean, safe school environment, perform general maintenance, open/lock premises, and assist with events. The role runs 8:30am–2:30pm, Monday to Friday, for a defined start to finish date, with DBS checks as required.

Applicants should have janitorial or facilities experience, basic trades skills, good organisation, and the ability to work independently or with a team in a school setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in janitorial, caretaker, maintenance, or facilities roles.
• Basic skills in plumbing, decorating, carpentry, or general repairs.
• Hands-on, practical problem solving.
• Good organisation and time management.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Friendly and professional manner with pupils, staff, parents and visitors.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and repairs across the school site.
• Ensure the school buildings and grounds are clean, safe, secure, and well-maintained.
• Open and lock school premises as required.
• Conduct routine health and safety checks.
• Monitor and report maintenance issues and hazards.
• Assist with setting up rooms, halls, and equipment for school events and activities.
• Maintain outdoor areas, including pathways, playgrounds, and landscaped spaces.
• Liaise with contractors and support planned maintenance work.
• Ensure compliance with school health and safety procedures.
