Job summary

Birkby Infant and Nursery School, part of Kirklees Council, is seeking a skilled caretaker to support a safe, welcoming learning environment in Huddersfield. You will handle security, routine maintenance and event preparation, working across a busy school day.

The role is temporary, 37 hours per week, with safeguarding training and a DBS check. A positive, supportive team and leadership await the successful applicant.

Qualifications

• Experience in caretaking, site management or facilities role.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexible, hardworking and safety-conscious.
• Excellent timekeeping and organisational skills.
• Good sense of humour and positive attitude.
• Willingness to undertake relevant safeguarding and safety training.”
• Competent in IT systems and electronic records.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the security of the school site, including opening and locking buildings as required.
• Carry out regular health and safety checks, risk assessments and site inspections.
• Oversee cleanliness, maintenance and presentation of the school grounds and buildings.
• Liaise with contractors and monitor maintenance work on site.
• Assist with preparation of rooms and facilities for events and activities.
• Respond promptly to maintenance issues and emergencies during the day.
• Maintain accurate health and safety records and maintenance schedules.
