Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a proactive School Caretaker for a vibrant secondary academy in Reading. The role offers an ASAP start, a full-time permanent contract, and a supportive facilities team environment.

You will be responsible for site security, daily maintenance, safety checks, and setting up spaces for events, with on-site staff parking available. A DBS check is required and training opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Proven background as caretaker, site technician, or facilities manager in an education setting.
• Strong DIY and practical maintenance skills with problem-solving ability.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations (COSHH, Fire Safety).
• Excellent organisational and physical fitness for lifting/porterage.
• Willingness to undergo enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Open/close academy, manage alarms, security patrols.
• Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs.
• Perform health and safety checks and log results.
• Move furniture and set up rooms for events.
• Oversee contractors and ensure safeguarding compliance.
• Maintain cleanliness and waste management.
