Job summary

Autism East Midlands is recruiting a part-time Caretaker for Sutherland House School in Nottingham. The role involves maintenance, repairs, and site upkeep, with responsibilities for alarm systems, health and safety checks, and coordinating site operations.

Experience in education settings is preferred, with opportunities for skill development and career progression. Hours are a 1 year fixed-term contract with potential to 25 hours per week; timings to be confirmed.

Qualifications

• Good communication skills and a friendly, focused approach.
• Background in caretaking or site officer/premises maintenance.
• Experience delivering maintenance and repair to a professional standard.
• Preferred experience working in an educational setting.
• Awareness of health and safety standards in cleaning and caretaking.

Responsibilities

• Operate and respond to alarm systems where appropriate.
• Carry out health and safety checks such as legionella temperature control, fire alarm tests, fire call point testing and similar.
• Log maintenance tasks and input new requests from staff.
• Carry out general upkeep and maintenance of the premises to a satisfactory standard.
• Undertake decoration programmes as scheduled.
• Perform minor improvement work (e.g., shelves, noticeboards, door locks).
• Operate and maintain lighting systems.
• Identify defects and record repair needs.
• Collect and dispose of waste.
• Undertake cleaning duties such as graffiti removal and litter picking.
• Coordinate deliveries to Sutherland House School.
• Liaise with contractors and inform admin of key dates.
• Monitor energy consumption and take meter readings as required.
• Provide emergency first aid as required.
• Access training and support; opportunities to develop new skills.
