Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Catering Assistant to support daily operations in the school kitchen and dining areas.

You will assist with food preparation, serving meals, and maintaining hygiene and safe food handling practices while promoting a positive dining experience for pupils.

The role requires good teamwork, reliable attendance and willingness to undertake training to meet quality standards.

Qualifications

• Essential criteria: willingness to undertake job related training.
• Effective communication skills to support team working and customer engagement.
• Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
• Organisational and planning skills; ability to work under pressure.
• Motivation to provide excellent food and customer service for pupils.
• Desirable: experience in customer service or catering.

Responsibilities

• Basic preparation of food and beverages, including vegetables and snacks.
• Simple cooking, including reconstitution of prepared food.
• Organising and controlling food service points.
• Transferring and serving meals and snacks.
• Assisting with promotion of meals to pupils and parents.
• Maintaining regular contact with the central kitchen regarding service delivery.
• Preparing the dining area and setting tables and serving points.
• Cleaning kitchen, servery and dining area and equipment.
• Recording temperatures for control purposes.
• Carrying out duties to comply with applicable laws and school policies.
