Job summary

The Roving Bookshop, based in Leicester, travels to schools nationwide to bring a full-size mobile bookshop to events. You will drive a medium van, unload stock, and set up up to 54 display cases while engaging with children and teachers.

Role includes selling, stock management, and basic admin; term-time work with occasional longer trips and paid overnight stays. DBS checks required; UK driving licence essential.

Qualifications

• Physical strength to load/unload up to ~1 tonne of books on trolleys and erect displays.
• Confidence driving a medium van with a clean UK driving licence.
• Flexibility to start early and finish late during visits, including paid overnight stays for long distance events.
• Flexibility to work extra events during school term time (World Book Day).
• Ability to work independently and set up displays in varied school environments.
• Friendly communication with teachers and children.
• Ability to obtain an enhanced DBS check (safeguarding in schools).
• Interest in children’s books (training provided).
• Familiarity with Point of Sale systems (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Drive a medium van to schools across the country.
• Load and unload heavy trolleys containing book stock.
• Erect up to 54 display cases and set up the mobile bookshop.
• Sell to children and interact with school staff throughout the day.
• Manage stock, take payments, and do simple admin.
