Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a SEND Support Worker to assist pupils aged 5 to 19 in a school-based setting in Cramlington. The role focuses on pupils with Autism, ADHD and various learning disabilities, including non-verbal pupils who require alternative communication methods.

Both full-time and part-time hours are available. The successful candidate will support EHCPs, use Makaton or PECS where needed, and contribute to a calm, structured, inclusive classroom environment with strong

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with complex SEND, particularly Autism and communication needs.
• Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to individual needs.
• Patient, caring and non-judgemental approach; ability to work independently and in a team.
• Experience using Makaton, PECS, visual supports, or communication boards is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent one-to-one and small group support for pupils aged 5 to 19 with complex SEND, including Autism and ADHD.
• Support non-verbal pupils using alternative and augmentative communication strategies.
• Use tools such as Makaton, visual timetables, symbols, and communication boards to support understanding and engagement.
• Support the delivery of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Encourage emotional regulation, communication, and engagement in learning.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, SEND staff, and external professionals.
• Help maintain a structured, calm, and inclusive learning environment.
