School-Based Occupational Therapist – SEND & Learning Support

Job summary

Aspire People are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist to join a South West London secondary school, supporting pupils with SEND to access learning and develop independence.

You will assess, plan and implement therapy programmes, collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and families, and monitor progress while maintaining records. A relevant OT qualification, school experience, and an enhanced DBS are required.

Qualifications

• Hold a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification and be registered with the relevant professional body.
• Experience working with children or young people in a school/educational setting.
• Strong understanding of SEND and barriers to learning.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents and professionals.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Organised with ability to manage a varied caseload.
• Enhanced DBS via Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assessing students' functional, sensory, physical and occupational needs.
• Developing and implementing individualised therapy programmes.
• Providing practical strategies to support students' access to learning and participation in school life.
• Working with pupils with SEND, including autism, ADHD, sensory processing difficulties and physical or developmental needs.
• Advising teaching staff on appropriate interventions and adjustments.
• Monitoring and evaluating students' progress and adapting programmes as required.
• Collaborating with SENCO, pastoral team and other professionals.
• Providing advice to parents/carers where appropriate.
• Maintaining accurate and confidential records and reports.
