Job summary

Dorset Council’s Dorchester Middle School is seeking a proactive Attendance Officer to promote high levels of attendance and punctuality across the school. The role is permanent, 37 hours per week, term-time only, with pro-rata salary of £27,709.

You will monitor attendance records, contact families, implement intervention strategies, and work with staff, the Local Authority and external agencies to safeguard pupils and improve outcomes.

Qualifications

• Good literacy and clear reporting skills.
• Experience working with young people and families is desirable.
• Knowledge of attendance regulations and barriers to attendance.
• Strong organisational and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain attendance and punctuality records.
• Follow up absences with parents/carers and log accurately.
• Identify and implement strategies to improve attendance.
• Undertake home visits and meetings with families and external agencies.
• Produce attendance reports and submit statistical returns.
• Collaborate with staff, Local Authority and partners to safeguard pupils.
