As an Attendance Officer, you will be crucial in implementing whole-school strategies designed to improve attendance levels and actively reduce persistent absence.
This role blends operational duties—such as conducting home visits and late gate patrols—with essential administrative support, requiring resilient engagement with students and parents to address attendance barriers.
Responsibilities You will drive whole-school attendance strategies by providing operational and clerical support to reduce persistent absence.
This involves conducting the daily 'Late Gate' patrol and maintaining the academy’s registration and attendance Management Information System, including operating the automated system for contacting parents regarding absence.
A key function is direct engagement with students and parents to discuss reasons for absence, offering appropriate support and challenge.
You will also prepare and present detailed attendance data for monitoring and reports, process referrals for Fixed Penalty Notices, and publicise attendance information through various channels.
Proficiency in standard ICT packages, particularly Microsoft Office and Excel, is essential.
Required attributes include resilience and the ability to work effectively in difficult situations, including dealing with conflict, while remaining professional at all times.
The ability to build effective working relationships with all stakeholders, including students and parents, is crucial.
Experience in a school environment or attendance-related role is desirable, as is using CMIS or SIMS software.
A satisfactory DBS check is mandatory.
