Job summary

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is recruiting for a Ward Manager for SCBU to lead the nursing team, coordinate 24-hour clinical management and ensure compassionate, high-quality patient care. This permanent full-time role requires strong clinical leadership, expert nursing practice, and driving standards in line with trust values.

Salary Band 7 and benefits apply, with a focus on staff development, progressive leadership, and delivering safe, effective care in a busy neonatal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the nursing team, taking continuing responsibility on a 24-hour basis for the management and organisation of the clinical area.
  • Through effective leadership ensure the clinical team deliver a safe, effective, responsive, caring and well led service where compassion is embedded, and a positive patient experience is achieved.
  • Provide strong professional clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and act as a professional role model.
  • A highly skilled clinical expert with specialised knowledge in caring for patients and their carers.
  • Promote and set high standards of professional nursing care and maintain the delivery of quality care within the trust policies, protocols, and guidelines. Implement the trust ‘vision and values’ ensuring they are embedded into everyday practice and evaluate their impact on the patient’s experience.
  • Provide strong professional nursing leadership to staff within sphere of clinical responsibility. Lead and motivate staff by giving clear direction and setting achievable objectives.
  • Continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.
  • Maintain a high visible presence within the clinical area ensuring that patients, visitors, healthcare staff and the multidisciplinary team, always have access to senior staff. Act as an effective professional role model and expert clinician.
  • Develop the ward/department philosophy and models of care to ensure that all policies and procedures are implemented and to lead on the development of nursing practice. Ensure that all staff understand the significance of the philosophy to practice, monitoring its impact on patient experience.

NHS Band 7 Salary: £49,387 - £56,515 per annum
Hours per Week: full time 37.5
