Job summary

Cheshire Constabulary is seeking an experienced Vehicle Examiner to join the Forensic Investigations Department at Force Headquarters, Winsford. You will conduct forensic examinations of vehicles involved in serious and fatal road traffic collisions, determining their mechanical condition and producing evidential reports to support investigations, prosecutions and court proceedings.

The role requires independent working, expert technical knowledge and the ability to provide evidence in court.

  • Ability to work independently and manage competing demands.

Location: Cheshire Police Headquarters, Winsford

About the Role

Cheshire Constabulary is seeking an experienced Vehicle Examiner to join the Forensic Investigations Department.

You will conduct forensic examinations of vehicles involved in serious and fatal road traffic collisions, determining their mechanical condition and producing evidential reports to support investigations, prosecutions and court proceedings. The role requires independent working, expert technical knowledge and the ability to provide evidence in court.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine vehicles involved in collisions and criminal investigations.
  • Identify and assess mechanical defects or failures.
  • Produce evidential reports and technical findings.
  • Attend court and provide expert witness testimony when required.
  • Support fatal and serious collision investigations.
  • Work in compliance with ISO standards and Forensic Science Regulator requirements.
Essential Criteria
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience within the motor vehicle mechanical repair industry.
  • A recognised time-served apprenticeship.
  • A recognised qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance (e.g. City & Guilds, IMI, IRTE or equivalent).
  • Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge of vehicle systems and mechanical faults.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage competing demands.
