Pontoon is seeking a skilled Scala Developer on a 12-month contract in the London area, with hybrid on-site work in Bromley three days a week. The role focuses on building and supporting enterprise data pipelines and OpenShift-based solutions for a financial services client.

You will leverage Scala, Spark, and modern data engineering practices to develop scalable, secure, and performant data processing systems, contributing to critical digital initiatives and AI-enabled programs.

Role Profile

Our client, a prestigious organisation in the investment banking sector, is seeking a skilled Scala Developer to join their team on a fixed-term contract basis. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and supporting enterprise data pipelines and OpenShift-based solutions.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to scalable, secure, and efficient data processing, application deployment, and operational transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and support enterprise data pipelines and OpenShift-based solutions to enhance the organisation's data processing capabilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, cloud-native solutions that meet the organisation's business-critical digital and AI programme needs.
• Enhance platform performance and support ongoing operational transformation initiatives.
• Leverage strong hands-on experience with OpenShift for deploying, managing, and scaling containerised applications in enterprise environments.
• Utilise proficiency in Scala programming to develop robust, scalable, and high-performance data processing applications.
• Build and optimise large-scale data processing and analytics pipelines using Apache Spark.
• Develop and maintain end-to-end data pipelines for both batch and real-time data processing.
• Apply solid understanding of data engineering concepts, including ETL/ELT processes, data transformation, and distributed computing frameworks.
• Implement best practises in containerisation technologies, CI/CD practises, and cloud-native application development.
• Utilise version control systems such as Git and adhere to Agile software development methodologies.
• Demonstrate strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills to optimise system performance and reliability.
• Communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders.

Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience as a Software Engineer with a strong focus on Scala development.
• Extensive hands-on experience with OpenShift and Apache Spark.
• In-depth understanding of data engineering principles and practises.
• Experience in developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines for batch and real-time processing.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including pair programming and daily stand-ups.
• Strong teamwork skills, with a history of sharing code bases and continuous integration practises.
• Excellent communication skills, with an ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
