Job summary

Smart Solutions is seeking a reliable Sample Technician to join a wastewater sampling and analysis team based in Wakefield. This field-based role involves travel to multiple client sites to collect wastewater samples and transport them to laboratory drop-off locations, with full training provided on sampling equipment and procedures.

The position is Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm, with overtime opportunities and a long-term contract beyond April 2027.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence required.
• Ability to drive a van for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.
• Reliable with a positive team-focused attitude.

Responsibilities

Pay: £14.65 per hour
Overtime: £29.30 per hour
Contract: Until April 2027 (with potential extension)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable Sample Technician to join a wastewater sampling and analysis team based in Wakefield.

This is a field-based role involving travel to multiple client sites to collect wastewater samples and transport them to laboratory drop-off locations. Full training will be provided on sampling equipment and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect wastewater samples from client sites.


• Drive between locations and safely transport samples.


• Operate and maintain sampling equipment.


• Prepare sample bottles and equipment for daily use.


• Clean, charge and check equipment and batteries.


• Complete housekeeping duties and follow site procedures.


• Work occasional weekends and overnight stays when required.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Full UK driving licence.


• Comfortable driving a van for extended periods.


• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.


• Reliable with a positive team-focused attitude.

Desirable:

• CSCS card.


• Experience working on wastewater treatment sites or within a similar environment.

What We Offer

• £14.65 per hour basic rate.


• £29.30 per hour overtime rate.


• Two hours' overtime paid for each night spent away from home.


• Double time for Saturday and Sunday working.


• Full training provided.


• Long-term contract with potential extension beyond April 2027.
