Job description

Location: Peterborough , England, United Kingdom, PE4 5HG

The Role

We're looking for an experienced Sales Manager to drive the growth of our new-build steam turbine business.

Working as part of a global engineering organisation, you'll be responsible for developing and winning high-value capital equipment opportunities across offshore energy, oil & gas, power generation and industrial markets. The role focuses exclusively on the sale of new steam turbine packages and solutions, engaging with EPCs, end users, consultants and contractors on complex engineering projects from initial enquiry through to contract award.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven sales professional with experience selling rotating equipment into offshore and energy markets. Candidates with a background in steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, turboexpanders or other engineered rotating equipment will be particularly well suited.

We're specifically seeking individuals with experience of new-build capital equipment sales, rather than aftermarket services, maintenance contracts or spare parts sales.

About Us

Howden Turbo UK, incorporating Peter Brotherhood, is a leading designer and manufacturer of steam turbine solutions serving customers across the energy, industrial, offshore and power generation sectors.

Founded over 150 years ago, Peter Brotherhood has built a global reputation for the design, manufacture and servicing of high-performance steam turbines and rotating equipment. From its Peterborough facility, the business delivers engineered solutions for some of the world's most demanding applications, supporting customers where reliability, efficiency and performance are critical.

In 2021, Peter Brotherhood became part of Howden, a global engineering business with a long-standing heritage in mission-critical technologies and industrial process solutions. The acquisition expanded Howden's rotating equipment portfolio and provided Peter Brotherhood with access to a global customer network, enhanced investment and new routes to market.

Today, Howden is part of Baker Hughes, one of the world's leading energy technology companies. Together, we combine the agility and specialist expertise of Peter Brotherhood with the global reach, financial strength and innovation capability of Baker Hughes. This enables us to support customers worldwide as they navigate the evolving energy landscape, improve operational performance and advance their sustainability objectives.

Joining our team means becoming part of a business that combines engineering heritage with global ambition. You'll work alongside experienced technical and commercial professionals, helping deliver world-class steam turbine solutions on major projects across international markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver annual order intake, sales and margin targets for the steam turbine product portfolio.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies to grow market share and secure new-build steam turbine projects.
  • Identify, qualify and convert new business opportunities across the offshore energy, oil & gas, power generation, petrochemical and industrial sectors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with end users, EPC contractors, consultants and key industry stakeholders.
  • Lead opportunities through the full sales lifecycle, from initial enquiry through to contract award.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy sales pipeline, providing accurate forecasts and regular market intelligence.
  • Prepare and lead high-quality commercial and technical proposals in collaboration with engineering and operational teams.
  • Review customer specifications and tender requirements to ensure commercially and technically compliant solutions.
  • Lead customer meetings, presentations and bid clarification discussions throughout the sales process.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and secure profitable contracts that align with business objectives.
  • Act as the voice of the customer within the organisation, ensuring customer requirements are understood and addressed.
  • Work closely with engineering, project delivery and supply chain teams to ensure the business remains aligned to customer expectations.
  • Identify new market opportunities, applications and routes to market for steam turbine solutions.
  • Contribute to future product and service development by providing customer and market feedback.
  • Ensure CRM systems are maintained with accurate opportunity, customer and forecast data.
  • Represent the business at industry events, conferences, networking events and exhibitions.
  • Champion the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance in all business activities.

Travel

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support customers, projects and industry events.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a commercially driven sales professional with a proven track record of winning complex capital equipment projects within offshore and energy markets. You'll be comfortable building relationships with customers at all levels, navigating long sales cycles, and translating technical solutions into commercial success.

  • Proven experience selling new-build rotating equipment into offshore energy and oil & gas markets, ideally within an OEM or engineered equipment environment.
  • Strong track record of winning high-value capital equipment projects and delivering against sales and margin targets.
  • Experience selling products such as compressors, gas turbines, turboexpanders or steam turbines.
  • Direct steam turbine sales experience would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of OEM project sales environments and complex technical sales cycles.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with end users, EPC contractors, consultants and other key industry stakeholders.
  • Excellent commercial awareness, with strong negotiation and contract management capabilities.
  • Confidence engaging with both technical and commercial decision-makers at all levels of an organisation.
  • Experience managing opportunities from initial enquiry through to contract award.
  • Strong pipeline management, forecasting and CRM discipline.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with a passion for winning new business and developing strategic customer relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, project delivery and supply chain teams.
