Job description

Lead. Develop. Grow.

An innovative and growing business within the construction and building products sector is looking to appoint an ambitious Sales Manager to lead the next stage of its commercial growth.

The business specialises in high-performance fibre cement solutions that challenge traditional materials and offer customers practical, quality-led alternatives. With an established product range and strong market proposition, this is an exciting opportunity to join a business with genuine growth potential.

You’ll manage a sales team of 13 people, including Area Sales Managers and office-based sales support, with a key focus on developing people, improving sales performance and maximising the potential of each territory.

Alongside leading the wider sales function, you’ll also manage key customer relationships and identify opportunities to increase customer spend and drive further commercial growth.

The Role

You’ll provide the leadership, structure and commercial focus required to drive sales growth across the business.

A key priority will be to establish and embed a clear performance culture, introducing meaningful KPIs, robust performance management and accountability across the sales team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, coach and develop a 13-person sales team, including Area Sales Managers and office-based sales support.
  • Establish and implement clear, achievable and commercially focused KPIs across the sales function.
  • Introduce a structured approach to performance management, ensuring expectations, objectives and results are clearly understood.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, ownership and high performance, while keeping the team engaged and motivated.
  • Use performance data to identify opportunities, address underperformance and maximise each territory.
  • Develop territory-specific growth plans and drive sales activity, customer engagement and margin.
  • Hold regular 1:1s and team meetings to review performance, provide feedback and maintain momentum.
  • Manage and develop key customer relationships, identifying opportunities to increase spend and grow existing accounts.
  • Maintain a strong, accurate and well-managed sales pipeline.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to deliver growth strategies and commercial initiatives.
  • Lead from the front through customer engagement and joint field visits.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing and other internal teams to maximise opportunities.
What Success Looks Like

The focus will be on profitable, sustainable growth, supported by a clear and measurable performance framework.

KPIs will cover areas including:

  • Sales revenue and territory growth
  • Sales activity and customer engagement
  • New business and account development
  • Contribution margin
  • Pipeline management and conversion
  • Customer retention and spend
  • Team performance and development

The key challenge is to create the right structure, KPIs and accountability to unlock the potential within each territory and drive consistent commercial performance.

Requirements

You’ll be an experienced sales leader with a strong understanding of the construction, merchant or building products sector.

You could be an established Sales Manager or Regional Sales Manager, or an ambitious Area Sales Manager ready to take the next step.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a confident, hands-on and commercially driven leader.
  • Has a proven ability to manage performance and drive accountability.
  • Enjoys coaching and developing people.
  • Has experience establishing and managing meaningful KPIs.
  • Can identify underperformance and have the confidence to address it constructively.
  • Understands territory management and how to grow existing accounts.
  • Has strong customer relationship and communication skills.
  • Is proactive, resilient and comfortable in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
  • Brings energy, positivity and a genuine growth mindset.
Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a business with a strong product proposition and genuine growth potential, while having the autonomy to shape the sales function and make a visible commercial impact.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop a team of 13, establish the KPI and performance framework, maximise territory potential and play a key role in shaping the next phase of the business’s growth.

This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to lead people, create structure, drive accountability and deliver growth.

  • Performance bonus
  • Company benefits
