This opportunity is with a leading independent, global, full-service investment banking firm headquartered in the U.S. The firm has served clients for over 60 years, providing insight, expertise, and execution to investors, companies, and governments. It offers deep sector expertise across a full range of products and services in investment banking, equities, fixed income, and asset and wealth management throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of a publicly listed, diversified financial services group.

Role and Responsibilities

The firm is seeking to hire a mid-level solicitor, ideally with broad fixed income experience gained either in-house or in private practice. The candidate may be US, UK, and/or Commonwealth qualified. This London-based role will report to the Head of Sales & Trading Legal for EMEA and Asia.

The successful candidate will support various Fixed Income businesses, including DCM, Private Placements, Loan and Claims Trading, Emerging Markets, CLOs, and ABS desks, with a focus on bespoke, structured, or cross-border transactions. Additional support may be required for the Risk, Operations, Compliance, and Treasury teams.

The position is broad and varied, involving the review and negotiation of a wide range of documents including:

  • Term sheets
  • Offering and issuance documents
  • Placement and subscription agreements
  • Credit and security agreements
  • Trade confirmations
  • Assignment, purchase & sale, and transfer agreements
  • Fee letters
  • Highly confident letters

Depending on the matter, the candidate will either work independently or alongside and in support of senior legal team members.

Person Specification

Experience in the UK legal practice of a leading international law firm or financial institution will be advantageous. While direct experience in all areas listed above is not required, the ideal candidate should be a lateral thinker who is enthusiastic, willing to learn, and open to stepping outside their comfort zone. The Legal team operates within a fast-paced trading floor environment, so confidence and technical expertise are essential.
