Job summary

Walker Medical Group in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a Salaried GP to join our friendly and experienced team for 4–6 sessions per week. You will deliver safe, patient centred General Practice services across face-to-face and telehealth consultations.

The practice offers NHS Pension, a comprehensive induction, protected development time, and a supportive, well‑structured team environment with governance and quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, patient centred general practice care across face-to-face and remote consultations.
• Assess, diagnose, treat and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Prescribe safely in line with local and national guidance and practice policies; manage referrals and tests.
• Refer appropriately to secondary care and other healthcare professionals; maintain records in SystmOne.
• Participate in on-call duties and multidisciplinary team working as per rota.
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

• Deliver safe, effective and patient-centred General Practice services.


• Assess, diagnose and manage acute and long-term conditions.


• Undertake clinical administration including results, correspondence, referrals and prescriptions.


• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are seen by the most appropriate clinician.


• Participate in the practice on-call rota, proportionate to sessions worked.


• Triage SystmConnect requests; arranging face to face/telephone consultations or signposting patients to appropriate services.


• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and practice development.

Job responsibilities

• Provide safe, effective, and patient centred care through face to face, telephone and appropriate home consultations.


• Assess, diagnose, treat and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.


• Prescribe safely in line with local and national guidance and practice policies.


• Refer appropriately to secondary care and other healthcare professionals.


• Maintain accurate clinical records and appropriate coding using SystmOne.


• Participate in on-call duties, clinical rotas, and multidisciplinary working.


• Provide health promotion, preventative care and long term condition management.


• Support safeguarding, enhanced services, QOF, clinical audit and quality improvement activities.


• Complete clinical administration, including referrals, prescriptions, reports, and correspondence in a timely manner.


• Maintain confidentiality and comply with information governance, data protection and GMC requirements.


• Participate in daily team meetings for coffee and debrief.


• Ensure CPD, appraisal and revalidation are up to date.


• Contribute positively to the practice team and undertake other duties appropriate to the role.
