Job description

We are looking for a Salaried GP for 4-8 sessions, to joinour vibrant, forward-thinking team at Bloomfield Medical Centre.

The post-holder will participate withcolleagues to maintain a rota of cover during practice opening hours (5-dayperiod) to deal with a wide range of health needs in primary care settingsacross a portfolio of services that Bloomfield currently runs, including: -

Bloomfield Medical Centre, Grange ParkSurgery, Blackpool Urgent Treatment Centre and Blackpool Victoria UrgentTreatment Centre co-located with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals EmergencyDepartment (based on the Acute Hospital site), ensuring the highest standardsof care for all patients.

We also have a close working relationshipwith Lockwood GP Surgery in Poulton-le-Fylde. As this working relationshipdevelops, there will be an increased opportunity for the postholder to deliverprimary care services from the Lockwood GP site.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide high- quality care in a primary care setting. Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients.
  • Management of screening, prevention and chronic care issues.
  • Admin duties: Managing necessary paperwork through EMIS clinical system and ensuring timely communication with other health providers.

Bloomfield Medical Centre is a Primary Careprovider based over two sites in Blackpool, Bloomfield Medical Centre onBloomfield Road and Grange Park Health Centre on Dinmore Avenue. Our services are diverse, forward-thinkingenabling us to deliver care to meet local priorities in relation todeprivation, chronic disease, improved access, migration from secondary careand more efficient commissioning.

We provide high quality general medical careto a registered list of over 17,000 patients over the two sites, through ourdedicated team of clinical, administrative and management professionalsincluding 8 GP Partners, Salaried doctors, Clinical Pharmacists, NursePractitioners, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home/community settings, checking, and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, including participation in the Duty Team on call arrangements.

Experience
  • Ability to offer clinical opinion on full range of primary medical conditions.
  • Ability to take full and responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
  • Good practical clinical skills.
  • Proficient in assessing and treating minor injuries, including review of MSK X-rays and suturing.
Communication
  • Excellent oral, aural, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with difficult situations.
  • Previous use of EMIS Web and Adastra IT systems.
Qualifications
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Vocationally trained GP.
  • Evidence of continual professional development.
  • Membership of or working towards MRCGP.
Teaching
  • Experience and willingness to teaching juniors, support services professionals.
  • Willing / able to attend appropriate training.
