Job description
Salaried General Practitioner (12 Month Fixed Term Maternity Cover)

Brinsworth & Whiston Medical Centre are seeking a motivated and compassionate Salaried General Practitioner to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave, commencing at the end of February 2026. The role is ideally suited to a GP looking to undertake 5 clinical sessions per week.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive, collaborative practice that is committed to delivering high-quality care to our local community.

Main duties of the job

Provide high-quality, patient-centred care through a mix of face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations

Take part in weekly on-call rota, providing same-day assessment and support for urgent patient needs

Manage both acute and chronic long-term conditions

Participate in the practice triage system on a rota basis

Work collaboratively with the wider clinical team and PCN colleagues to ensure continuity and quality of care

Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely clinical documentation in line with practice and regulatory standards

Debrief and support GP trainees, contributing to their ongoing education and development

Participate in clinical meetings, MDTs, and case discussions as required

Contribute to medicines management, repeat prescription reviews, and safe prescribing practices

Engage in safeguarding processes for both adults and children, following local and national protocols

Support practice initiatives aimed at improving access, patient outcomes, and population health

Contribute to the ongoing development of practice policies, protocols, and clinical pathways

Undertake home visits

Participate in audit, significant event analysis, and quality improvement activities

Adhere to professional, ethical, and governance standards expected of a GMC-registered GP

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for delivering medical services to the practice population and providing an excellent standard of clinical care in line with the requirements of the GMS contract.

In addition, the post holder will adhere to GMC standards for Good Medical Practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice and demonstrating leadership by example. They will foster positive, collaborative working relationships with the wider multidisciplinary team to support high-quality, patient-centred care.
