Job summary

Menzies Aviation in Edinburgh is seeking a Security Officer to support safe and secure airport operations. You will screen passengers and baggage, control access to secure areas, and verify travel documents while maintaining high levels of customer service and vigilance.

This role requires flexibility to work varying shifts and comply with all health, safety and security standards in a fast-paced airport environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to pass background checks and obtain security credentials.
• Experience in security, aviation, law enforcement, or military preferred but not required.
• Basic computer skills for reports and using monitoring/security systems.
• Valid driver's license if required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate safe and secure flight turnarounds.

Main Accountabilities

• Support the coordination of safe and secure flight turnarounds.
• Screen passengers, baggage, cargo, and other property using approved security procedures and equipment.
• Control and monitor access to secure and restricted areas of the airport.
• Verify identification, credentials, and travel documents as required.
• Monitor assigned security areas and report suspicious activity or potential security concerns.
• Conduct routine patrols of terminals, gates, ramp areas, aircraft, and other assigned locations.
• Respond promptly and professionally to security incidents, alarms, and emergencies.
• Enforce airport security requirements and company policies and procedures.
• Maintain a high level of vigilance while providing professional customer service.
• Complete security, incident, and other required reports accurately and promptly.
• Coordinate with airport authorities, law enforcement, airline representatives, and other authorized personnel as required.
• Actively participate in the company’s Safety Management System (SMS).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to successfully complete required background checks and obtain and maintain applicable airport/security credentials.
• Previous security, aviation, law enforcement, or military experience preferred, but not required.
• Basic computer skills for completing reports and using applicable monitoring or security systems.
• Valid driver’s license if required for the position.

• Ability to work in airport terminal, gate, ramp, aircraft, and other operational environments as assigned.
• Ability to work in environments with varying noise levels and weather conditions, depending on assignment.

Work Environment and Schedule

• Requires constant awareness and attention to surrounding activity.
• Must be flexible to work mornings, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operationally required.
