Safety Engineer - Defence and Security Sector

Our client, a leading company in the Defence and Security sector, is currently seeking a Safety Engineer to join their team in Stevenage or Bristol. This permanent position offers a dynamic working environment with hybrid working options, providing an excellent opportunity to leverage your safety, reliability, and system engineering skills on sophisticated and exciting defence products.

Key Skills and Requirements

• Must hold or be eligible to obtain SC security clearance.
• Deep understanding of hazard analysis and safety evaluation processes within the system engineering lifecycle.
• Proven experience in delivering comprehensive Safety Case Reports, including Hazard Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
• Strong knowledge of UK and international safety and systems engineering standards, particularly Def Stan 00-056.
• Experience with complex electronic systems and their safety challenges; experience in other engineering disciplines is a plus.
• Effective in multidisciplinary and multinational team environments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline preferred.

Key Responsibilities

1. Optimize safety assurance efforts for complex missile systems, balancing safety and performance.
2. Analyze system operations to demonstrate hazard mitigation cost-effectively.
3. Develop and construct safety cases with appropriate evidence within time and budget constraints.
4. Utilize techniques like Hazard Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis, and FTA to support safety evaluations.
5. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate safety and system engineering processes.
6. Ensure compliance with UK and international safety standards, especially Def Stan 00-056.
7. Contribute to research projects and safety investigations.
8. Apply knowledge of electronic or other engineering systems to address safety issues.
9. Work with customers to meet their safety requirements.
