Job summary

BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness is seeking a Product Safety Engineer to join the Submarines team. You will apply engineering expertise to ensure safety and compliance of submarine systems and components, working independently or with a small team and providing technical leadership.

The role requires chartered engineer status and extensive experience in safety or environmental engineering, with strong communication skills to liaise with stakeholders across the business. Hybrid working is offered.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer (Eng) or equivalent capability required.
• Extensive experience in safety or environmental engineering, preferably in complex/submarine environments.
• Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Undertake technical reviews and verify/sign engineering designs.
• Provide guidance and direction to engineers, supporting their development.
• Define qualification obligations for assurance hold points during build, test, and commissioning.
• Ensure Safety Cases and supporting documentation are robust, compliant, and fit for purpose.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to incorporate requirements where appropriate.
• Promote and share technical expertise, approaches, and standards across the business.

About the Role
