Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Safety Case Engineer to join our Defence & Security team. Hybrid role near Theale, Bristol or Glasgow offices with periodic client-site visits for UK nuclear and defence projects.

You will lead development of safety justification for nuclear and other high-hazard facilities, participate in design reviews, and mentor junior colleagues while embedding a strong safety culture. We offer flexible working patterns and a commitment to safety and professional development.

Qualifications

• Experience developing safety justification for nuclear infrastructure.
• Leading safety-related design activities across complex facilities.
• Ability to participate in design reviews, HAZOP/SHERA activities, and stakeholder meetings.

Responsibilities

• Ensure technical quality and excellence of your work.
• Regular communication with clients and design team members; participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, HAZCONs, SHERAs and stakeholder meetings.
• Develop safety requirements within designs for complex facilities, systems and equipment.
• Adhere to and contribute to business and quality management systems.
• Provide leadership within the team and guide others.
• Lead development of safety justification documentation including nuclear aspects.

Job description

These roles will ideally be based close to our Theale, Bristol, Glasgow office in a hybrid working role, and there will be a need for periodic visits to client sites as projects require. The Defence & Security business provides an exciting mixture of consultancy, design and engineering support, along with delivery of challenging Defence projects, to major clients in the UK at a variety of Sites across the nuclear and defence industries, including HMNB Clyde, HMNB Devonport, BAES Barrow and AWE Aldermaston. Overseas, we are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects across the globe including projects for clients in the Middle East and Australia. Taking a lead role in the development of the appropriate and proportionate safety case including Nuclear, Product, Construction, Process and HSE.

• Operational and design safety, and developing good safety culture, Taking a lead role in the development of the appropriate and proportionate safety justification documentation case which will predominantly be including Nuclear but may also include, Product, Construction, Process and HSE
