Job summary

Isle of Wight NHS Trust / Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust seeks a safeguarding specialist to support adults and maternity safeguarding across multiple sites on the Isle of Wight. The role covers operational safeguarding, training delivery, and multi-agency liaison to ensure timely responses.

You will join the Safeguarding Service on a 9-month secondment to cover maternity leave, with post-registration safeguarding experience and relevant qualifications essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide operational safeguarding support to all Trust services and inform the Named Nurse/Professional Lead of current concerns
• Assist in delivery of safeguarding training across the Trust
• Support development and implementation of safeguarding practice
• Ensure effective multi-agency liaison and adherence to statutory requirements
• Assist in audits, reports, and chronologies of safeguarding activities
• Embed a Family Approach towards safeguarding across the Trust
• Collaborate with Divisions supporting the Section 42 enquiry process

The single corporate service is delivered across both organisations. You may be based at either IWT or PHU and individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. For leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, you will need to be visible and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed locally.

Job Description

NHS Band 6 salary:£39,959 - £48,117 pro rata per annum

actual salary £31,967 - £38,493 per annum

Contract type: Secondment 9 months

This is an opportunity to join the Safeguarding Service, place based on the Isle of Wight, for a secondment to cover Maternity Leave.

• The Post holder is required to hold a relevant qualification i.e., Registered Nurse, Social Work Qualification, Allied health Professional Qualification with relevant experience of adults / child / maternity safeguarding.
• Provide operational safeguarding support to all Trust services, and inform Safeguarding All Age Specialist Practitioner and Named Nurse / Professional Lead for Safeguarding of current concerns/trends expressed by frontline staff.
• To assist the Safeguarding Service in the delivery of safeguarding training
• To support the development and implementation of safeguarding practice across the Trust.
• To ensure effective multi agency liaison, meeting the statutory requirements by providing support and advice to all area’s of the Trust.
• To support the trust Safeguarding Service in performing their safeguarding duties and responsibilities through advice to operational services, escalation of concerns to/from other agencies and effective feedback and support from safeguarding meetings and forums.
• To assist in audit and reporting of safeguarding processes, actions, and outcomes across the Trust.
• To assist the Safeguarding Specialist Practitioner / Named Nurse / Professional for Safeguarding to embed a Family Approach towards safeguarding across the trust.
• To maintain and improve the understanding of what constitutes a safeguarding referral and ensure the quality of safeguarding referrals
• To work in collaboratively with Divisions supporting the Section 42 enquiry process and ensuring learning is embedded within operational practice.
• Allied health professional Qualification i.e., Speech and Language Therapy, Specialist Dentistry, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy
• Evidence of ongoing professional development
• Teaching and assessment qualification.

Experience
