Job summary

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Birmingham is seeking a Safeguarding Nurse/Practitioner to provide clinical support, expert safeguarding advice and guidance to wards under the supervision of the Named Nurse for Safeguarding.

This internal recruitment opportunity offers a 9-month fixed-term contract or secondment for maternity cover, designed to develop safeguarding knowledge for ROH nurses or AHPs with safeguarding experience through structured supervision and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Applicants must be an ROH registered nurse or HCPC-registered AHP with safeguarding experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to Trust policies, procedures and guidelines
• Maintain accurate and confidential records
• Offer expertise and advice to multidisciplinary team members including supervision
• Work with Clinicians in the Trust to promote Safeguarding and to identify relevant cases.
• Independently assess, implement and evaluate patients with complex safeguarding needs, able to complete DoLs processes, Early Help assessments, MARAC and other multi‑agency referrals.
• Demonstrate enhanced communication skills when dealing with difficult or challenging situations.
• Maintain and develop specialist knowledge and skills to ensure the service remains dynamic and responsive.
• Work closely with Social Services to review and complete safeguarding referrals
• The post holder will escalate safeguarding issues highlighted by external agencies against the Trust.
• The post holder will document and communicate safeguarding care plans and management plans to clinical teams.
• Maintain a high profile within the clinical environment to enhance clinical relationships and maintain personal practice knowledge and skills including: providing clinical support in safeguarding during high inpatient activity
• Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, carers, significant others, and wider MDT/ Multi-Agency Teams
• Assist the safeguarding team in progressing the Trust Wide safeguarding service, including safeguarding care plans and embedding Trust Safeguarding Strategy
• Refer patients to other health care professionals to ensure coordinated care
• Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to meet patient needs.
