Southampton City Council is seeking a dedicated and highly organised Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead (Primary) to protect and support pupils from the onset of safeguarding concerns.

The post acts as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for the primary phase, leading safeguarding and pastoral practice, coordinating early intervention and ensuring statutory duties are met, in partnership with families and school leaders.

Grade 7– £33,119 to £37,561 per annum

Hours per week, 8am – 4pm Mon-Thu, Fri 8am - 3.30pm (inc 30 mins unpaid lunchbreak)

Full-time, permanent.

We are seeking a dedicated and highly organised Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead (Primary) to play a key role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing and positive outcomes of our students in our primary Phase. This is a vital position within the school, responsible for supporting students as soon as concerns arise, being proactive in protecting children from harm and ensuring every young person has the opportunity to thrive in a safe and

supportive environment.

As the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) for the primary phase, the postholder will ensure that safeguarding concerns are managed effectively, vulnerable pupils receive timely intervention and statutory duties are discharged in accordance with keeping children safe in Education and working Together to safeguard children.

You will work proactively with pupils and families, ensuring safeguarding needs are identified early and addressed effectively so they do not become barriers to learning, wellbeing or achievement.

PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead(Primary) provides operational leadership for safeguarding, pastoral care, and family support across the Primary Phase, ensuring vulnerable pupils receive timely, coordinated and child-centred support.

Acting as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), the postholder will ensure

safeguarding concerns are managed effectively, vulnerable pupils receive timely intervention and statutory duties are discharged in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education, Working together to Safeguard Children and local safeguarding procedures.

The postholder will lead operational safeguarding and pastoral practice, coordinate early intervention, support vulnerable pupils and families, line manager safeguarding and pastoral staff, and work collaboratively with the Director of Attendance, Safeguarding and Mental Health (DSL) to promote a culture of safeguarding, inclusion, wellbeing and educational success across the Primary phase.

Strategic safeguarding leadership, policy development and overall statutory accountability remain the responsibility of the Director of Attendance, Safeguarding and Mental Health (DSL).
